Look at the hole. A vaijanti seed grows with a channel through it, so a real mala needs no drilling; drilled, perfectly round beads are plastic or painted wood.

About this piece

Every description of Krishna has him wearing one. The Vaijanti mala is strung from the grey-white seeds of a grass that grows in the forests of Braj, each with a natural hole, smooth as porcelain and no two alike. Ours are gathered and strung in Vrindavan. Use it for Krishna and Vishnu japa, offer it to Laddu Gopal, or wear it yourself; there are no rules of gender or day.
