Look at the hole. A vaijanti seed grows with a natural channel through it, so a real mala is strung without drilling. Drilled, perfectly round beads are plastic or painted wood.

About this piece

The Vaijanti mala (also Vaijayanti or Vyjayanthi), the garland of victory that Krishna wears in every description of him. The beads are the grey-white seeds of a grass that grows in the forests of Braj, each with a natural hole, smooth as porcelain and no two alike. It is used for Krishna and Vishnu japa, offered to Laddu Gopal, and worn. Anyone can wear it; there are no restrictions of gender or day.
