Shivling, rudraksha and abhishek
For Mondays, Shravan and Mahashivratri. A Shivling you can bathe, chosen by how you'll worship; rudraksha with its X-ray report in the box; and the lota, bel patra and lamp for the morning water. The guides take you from the first piece to the full abhishek.

Before you choose
A Shiva altar at home needs very little: a Shivling you can bathe, water to pour, a few bel leaves and a mala for the mantra. What trips people up is buying the wrong first piece. Start with the Shivling, because its material decides your daily puja. Narmada stone and cast metal take a full abhishek of water, milk and honey; sphatik and other polished stone take water only; parad is held most sacred in the texts and needs careful handling. Everything else on this page follows from that choice.
01
Which Shivling for home
For a daily abhishek, a Narmadeshwar bana lingam: shaped by the river, needs no installation rite, and takes every offering. Ashtadhatu and brass last for generations and suit a family altar. Sphatik suits a quiet corner or a desk, with water only. Keep a home Shivling between a thumb and about four inches; larger ones belong in temples.
02
Rudraksha, by the mukhi you will actually wear
The 5 mukhi is the bead for Om Namah Shivaya japa and for daily wear, and the one most often prescribed. Ours ship with an X-ray report, because the mukhi count is the thing most often faked. Wear it after a short prayer on a Monday; take it off for sleep, bathing and funerals if your family keeps that custom.
03
The abhishek set: lota, Gangajal, bel
A copper or brass lota with a thin spout pours the slow stream the abhishek asks for. Gangajal sealed at the ghat, dried bel patra for the weeks when fresh leaves are hard to find, white chandan and bhasma complete the Monday puja. Tulsi, haldi and kumkum are not offered to Shiva.
