Ours come from the towns that still make them for temples. Lamps from Nachiarkoil, silver from Cuttack, and Moradabad brass turned on a lathe, not cast thin.

Weight tells you the thickness
A brass thali under 300 g is stamped from thin sheet and will warp. The weights on our listings are weighed, not estimated.

Oil lamp or ghee lamp
A kuthu vilakku burns oil for hours. A small ghee diya is for aarti. Buy for the use, and keep a separate diya for camphor.

One shankh, kept dry
A dakshinavarti shankh stays on the altar and is not blown. The conch you blow is a different, sturdier shell. Ask us if you are not sure which you need.

- How do I clean a brass thali?
- Rub it with tamarind pulp or pitambari powder, rinse, and dry it straight away. Water left on brass overnight leaves spots.
- What goes in a kalash?
- Water, a few coins, akshat, a supari, and mango leaves with a coconut on top. For Navratri, sow barley in the tray around it.
- Is a dakshinavarti shankh natural?
- Yes, and it is rare, which is why it costs what it does. A right-turning spiral cannot be made by hand or machine. Ours comes with a silver-plated stand and a verification photo card.
