Kasauti is often sold as 'shaligram mala'. It is not. Shaligram comes only from the Gandaki in Nepal; kasauti is the goldsmith's black touchstone. It is a fine mala in its own right and we sell it under its own name.

About this piece

Kasauti (also written kasoti) is the fine-grained black stone goldsmiths have used for centuries to test gold, and the word has come to mean a test of truth. As a japa mala it is favoured by Vaishnavas for Vishnu and Krishna mantras and is used in Jain practice as well. The beads are matte black, cool and heavy in the hand, knotted between each bead on silk with a sumeru and tassel.
