Why it's traditionally used

Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra are the deities of the Puri temple, and the painters of Raghurajpur have long made patta images of them for worship. In Puri, painted pattas take the deities' place for the fortnight after the Snana Yatra, while the wooden forms rest. At home the trio is hung in the puja room, especially around Rath Yatra or a griha pravesh.
