Why it's traditionally used

Gaja Lakshmi is Lakshmi seated on a lotus while two elephants pour water over her, one of her oldest forms and one of the Ashta Lakshmi. Thanjavur painting grew up around temple and household worship, which is why these panels hang in the puja room rather than only the living room. Families often bring one home for Diwali, a wedding or a griha pravesh, and light a lamp before it.

Care
  • Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth only; no liquids, no polish.
  • Gold-plated pieces are for the altar and display, not for abhishek or tikka; liquids lift the plating.
  • Handle by the base to keep fingerprints off the plated surface.
  • Dust weekly with a dry cloth; oil once a season with a drop of coconut or teak oil on a cloth.
  • Keep away from damp walls and direct sun, which warp and fade wood.
