Cow-dung dhoop should smoulder slowly and smell of ghee and guggal. These do, and each box supports the gaushala that pressed them.

About this piece

Light one cup and let it smoulder slowly through your puja, smelling of ghee and guggal. These are pressed at a gaushala in Rajasthan from desi cow dung, guggal and ghee, with no charcoal. Each cup is 3 cm across and a box holds 24. Every box you buy supports the gaushala that made it.

Why it's traditionally used

Dhoop is the fragrance offering of the puja, and cow-dung dhoop with guggal is one of its oldest forms, burned in homes for Krishna and Shiva. It smoulders slowly rather than flaring, so families light a cup at the start of the evening aarti or a longer festival puja, at Navratri, Diwali and griha pravesh.
