From the Shiwalay desk
Real sandalwood smells faint and creamy, and the scent returns when you warm the beads in your palm. If a mala smells strong from across the room, it has been perfumed.
About this piece
The white chandan mala (safed chandan, sandalwood mala) is the traditional rosary for Vishnu, Krishna and Rama mantras and for anyone who wants a cooling, calming practice. The beads are turned from sandalwood, left unpolished so the natural oil reaches the skin, and knotted on silk with a sumeru and tassel. Expect a soft, natural fragrance that fades and returns with handling, not a perfume.
