About this piece

Bhog, the food offered to the deity, is placed in its own small bowl and eaten afterwards as prasad. These are two plain brass katoris, 7 cm across, for the daily offering of a sweet, a little kheer, fruit or sugar.

Why it's traditionally used

Bhog, the food offered to the deity, is placed in its own small vessel and shared afterwards as prasad. In Vaishnava homes especially, a separate katori is kept for the deity and never used for the family's own meals.

How to use
  1. Place the day's offering in the katori before the deity, and offer it with a tulsi leaf for Vishnu and Krishna.
  2. After the aarti, share the offering as prasad.
  3. Wash, dry at once, and polish monthly with tamarind or pitambari.
Care
  • Wipe dry after every aarti; water spots become tarnish within a day.
  • Clean monthly with pitambari or tamarind pulp, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth.
  • Keep lacquered pieces away from flame and abrasives; the coating is what keeps them bright.
In the box
  • 2 brass katoris
