Nachiarkoil lamps are turned on a lathe, not cast, which is why the profile is so clean. The GI tag is on the card in the box.
The tall standing lamp of South Indian homes, with five faces for five wicks. It is turned on a lathe and finished by hand by the Kammalar community of Nachiarkoil in Tamil Nadu, which gives it a clean profile. It arrives in three parts with 20 cotton wicks, and the GI tag for Nachiarkoil Kuthuvilakku is shown on the card in the box.
The kuthu vilakku is the standing oil lamp of Tamil homes, lit at dusk and set before the deity at every auspicious occasion. It is lit at weddings, griha pravesh and Diwali, and in the Tamil vilakku puja the lamp itself is worshipped as a form of Lakshmi.
