Real Makrana marble is cool to the touch and heavy for its size. The gold detailing is 22-carat leaf, not paint.

About this piece

Lift it and you notice the weight first: 3.8 kg of Makrana marble, carved in Jaipur from a single block. The Ganesha is painted by hand with mineral colours, and the gold detailing is 22-carat leaf. A wooden chowki comes in the box, so he is ready for your mandir the day he arrives.

Why it's traditionally used

Ganesha is worshipped first at every puja, so a murti of him sits on almost every family altar. Families install a new one at griha pravesh, seat him beside Lakshmi for the Diwali puja and welcome him on Ganesh Chaturthi. A marble murti is kept dry, so the offerings here are durva, flowers, tilak and modak rather than a water abhishek.

How to use
  1. Wipe with a dry cloth only. Keep away from water.
Care
  • Dust with a soft brush; wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry at once.
  • No acids, vinegar or lemon on marble; they etch the surface permanently.
  • Keep kumkum and haldi off unsealed areas, or the stain sets.
In the box
  • Ganesha 8 in
  • Wooden chowki
