From the Shiwalay desk
Red sandalwood has almost no fragrance, which surprises people who expect chandan to smell. Its value here is the colour and the density: the carved lines stay crisp for decades.
About this piece
The Shree Yantra (Sri Yantra, Sri Chakra) carved in low relief into a block of rakta chandan, the deep-red sandalwood tradition reserves for Devi worship. Wood yantras are chosen by those who keep a Lakshmi or Durga altar and prefer a natural material to metal. The nine interlocking triangles are cut by hand and checked against a geometry template, because a Shree Yantra with uneven triangles is only decoration.
