Ekadashi Vrat
Three days: the evening before, the fast and puja on Ekadashi, and the parana on Dwadashi that closes it.
The spirit of this practiceA fast is not about going hungry. Upavasa means to sit near: the spirit of this vrat is to set aside a day's appetites and stay close to what matters.
Your progress is saved to your account. Your notebook lines stay on this phone only. A missed day never resets the count.
Ekadashi comes twice a month. This is the observance for one of them, in three parts: a quiet evening before, the day itself, and the breaking of the fast the next morning in the window the panchang gives. The full reasoning, the food rules and the answers are in the Ekadashi guide; this page keeps your place.
A reminder every day, in your own calendar
The same time each day is most of the practice. Choose yours; the reminder repeats for 3 days and opens today's step.
The daily routine
About 15 minutes, the same every day.
- 1
Light the lamp
Before the image, with a yellow flower and a tulsi leaf at the feet.
- 2
Japa
One round of Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya on the tulsi mala, 108 times.
- 3
Read
The day's katha, or a few verses of the Vishnu Sahasranama.
- 4
Offer
Fruit or a milk sweet with a tulsi leaf on it. Aarti.
Day by day
01Dashami, the evening before
One sattvic meal before sunset, without onion or garlic. Pick tomorrow's tulsi leaves now. Keep the evening quiet; the vrat begins here.
Closing, on the last day
- Parana. The fast is closed only by a meal that includes grain, within the window. Breaking it late or on fruit alone leaves the vrat open.
- Next time. The next Ekadashi is in about a fortnight; the daily WhatsApp panchang names it and gives the parana window.
The rules
- No grains, beans, onion, garlic or ordinary salt on Ekadashi.
- Do not pluck tulsi on Ekadashi.
- Parana within the panchang window on Dwadashi, with grain.
- The unwell, the elderly and the pregnant keep phalahar with medicines; that is a complete vrat.
Quick answers
Which Ekadashi is this kit for?
Any. The observance is the same for all twenty-four; only the katha and the parana time change. The daily panchang message names each Ekadashi and its parana window.
Can I drink water?
Yes, in the phalahar fast that most households keep. Only the nirjala form excludes water.
A practice of attention and order. Nothing here promises an outcome.
