About this piece

The Parad Shivling, also called Rasalingam or mercury Shivlinga, is made by binding purified mercury into a solid alloy through the traditional samskaras. The Shiva Purana and the rasa shastra texts hold parad to be the most sacred material for a lingam. How to identify an original: it is unusually heavy for its size, silver-grey rather than mirror-bright, leaves no black mark on the palm or on white cloth, and its composition can be assayed. Ours ships with a metal assay stating the mercury percentage. We do not recommend acid or gold tests; they damage the piece or your jewellery and prove little.
