About this piece
The 7-Day Protection Ritual is the Devi Kavach read each morning before Durga, a red kalava on the wrist, and one practical act a day for the safety of the house. This kit holds a brass diya and wicks, kumkum and rice, a red chunri with gota for the image, kalava thread, the Durga Saptashati with the Kavach, and the notebook for the day's line. Seven day cards carry each day's act. Bring your own Durga image or murti; red flowers are from the market. Each item is also sold on its own; the kit is the cheaper way to begin.

Why it's traditionally used
The Devi Kavach, the hymn of armour read before the Durga Saptashati, and the red kalava on the wrist are how many homes ask the Devi for protection, at Navratri above all.
How to use
- Drape the chunri over the image on day 1 and tie the kalava after the sankalp.
- Follow the day card each morning; the practice itself, day by day, is free at shiwalay.com/vidhi/7-day-protection-ritual.
- Read the Kavach from the book each morning; the day's act is on the card.
Care
- Wipe dry after every aarti; water spots become tarnish within a day.
- Clean monthly with pitambari or tamarind pulp, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth.
- Keep lacquered pieces away from flame and abrasives; the coating is what keeps them bright.
- Keep dry and out of direct sun to preserve colour.
- Spot-clean only; do not machine wash.
